In 1935-36 the iconic American painter Marsden Hartley lived at Blue Rocks, Nova Scotia. His time there living with a local family was idyllic until tragedy took the lives of those close to him. The experience changed Hartley and ultimately changed the course of American painting through an amazing outpouring of brilliant and new work. This film by Michael Maglaras is based on Hartley’s own writing, the narrative he wrote following the tragedy. Mr. Maglaras will introduce the film and take questions following the screening.
