217 Records : The Song of Hiawatha

Date

Sunday, April 18 at 4:00pm don’t miss Michael Maglaras’s dramatic reading of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s The Song of Hiawatha at Longfellow’s Wayside Inn’s in Sudbury, Massachusetts.

In 2007, Michael’s 217 Records label released a special 5-CD boxed set of this epic poem. Click HERE to read the Associated Press article about this project.

Michael recorded this masterpiece in its entirety in Longfellow’s hometown of Portland, Maine. Accompanied by a soundtrack of more than 1,000 pieces of Native American music, a host of sound effects, and using music by French composer Maurice Ravel, he brings the story of Hiawatha, more than 6,500 lines, to life.

To celebrate the Longfellow Bicentennial, Michael Maglaras also performed The Song of Hiawatha live in its entirety, in a special marathon public reading at the St. Lawrence Arts & Community Center in Portland, Maine.
